6th Doctor (original wave 1 release) The figures use are a clue to the age of the piece (see inspiration). If it had been filmed in late 2010, Iíd probably have used the Terror of the Vervoids 6th Doctor. Iíd have also had access to the series 5 Roman figure rather than photoshopping a different face onto one of the Fires of Pompeii Romans.
Evelyn Smythe- custom
Lucius- Roman Soldier (from Fires of Pompeii set)
Eximus- Roman Soldier (from Fires of Pompeii set) with face of Lester (Primeval) If it had been shot in early 2011, Iíd probably have switched out Evelyn for Peri.
Mummies Evelyn of course is a custom using a Grandma Connolly figure.
The character names of Lucius Crecius and Eximus were made up during the storylining and as place markers, my intention being to come up with proper names later. But when it came to editing I realised I still didn't have their names. I made sure Eximus was never used in the script and tried to make it appear that 'Lucius' came up with his name there and then- leading the Doctor to question it in the final frames.

The storyís original title was The Ancient Sands but I considered plenty of others, THE OSIRAN DEFENCE, THE DEADLY PYRAMID, THE SANDS OF DEATH, THE EGYPTIAN SCAM before setting on PYRAMID OF TRAPS

It was posted on 23rd July and 26th August, mainly to have a classic on the site in addition to the ongoing 11th Doctor series but also to whet peopleís appetites for my 6th Doctor audio which was released in the middle of August.

Oh my goodness, this oneís been around for a looong time.

The original reason behind it was the release of wave 2 of the classic figures which came out in January/ Febuary 2010 which shows how long ago this story was made.
I went to Argos and picked out a couple of figures and the ones that came back were the Deadly Assassin Master, great, wanted that one, and the Pyramids of Mars mummy. Now at first I decided I didnít want the mummies, had no use for them. But once I had one, and then bought the 4th Doctor adventure set so I had two, I thought Iíd better come up with a story for them.
So thatís when I started to come up with the idea of using my Roman figures and that gave me the setting. The danger of the traps then gave me the story.
The storyline was written between 14-16 Feb with the script done on the 16th.

The bulk of the story was shot on 24-27 February 2010 with the control room scene shot much later on 7 August 2010 along with some exterior shots that had been missed, including the sarcophagus escape pod.

There are some shots that Iím not entirely happy with. Some of the early ones are very dark and though Iíve tried to lighten them in photoshop, it hasnít quite worked.

Editing was a bit of a slow process and happened bit by bit over months.

With no actual posting date, there was no impetus to get it done. As it happened both parts were finished just ahead of their respective posting dates.
As with most AFT stories, some of the dialogue was tweaked, especially the bits in the control room and some of the exchanges between Evelyn and Lucius when I realised that she wouldnít know the mummies were robots.

This story is obviously set post Trial of a Time Lord after Peri has gone but before the Doctor has met Mel.
